Ever since I was little, I’ve been a helper. Helping my mom water plants when I was barely big enough to pull the hose across the yard to driving my grandma to her appointments and getting her groceries when I was able to drive. Always willing and ready whenever anyone asked.
One thing I struggled with was asking for help..so I didn’t. (Yes, I see the irony) Instead, I tried to do it on my own. No matter what wasn’t working in my life – health, weight, work, family, friends – I suffered in silence as I desperately searched for tips, tricks, or quick fixes.
I thought admitting I couldn’t do it on my own would mean I was weak.
I didn’t want to burden others with my problems. Everyone else seemed to be balancing it all with ease. If anyone found out, it would prove that my fear of not being enough wasn’t just a fear..it would be real, and true…and I wasn’t sure I could handle that.
Those thoughts and fears kept me stuck; feeling alone and disconnected.
I don’t want that for you.
I don’t want you to spend years trying to figure it out on your own like I did.
I want you to benefit from my struggles, my breakthroughs, my experiences.
I want you to win.
To be proud of who you are…
To know where you are going…
To have a plan to get there…
To know that you will succeed…
So here I am..risking it all. Openly admitting my flaws and failures. Why?
Because being a helper is who I am.
My hope is that this encourages you to take action.
Stop spinning your wheels and getting nowhere.
Stop beating yourself because you aren’t as healthy, as fit, or as fulfilled as you thought you’d be.
Stop putting yourself last.
I know that change can be intimidating and scary – that’s why I don’t want you to do it alone.
Like me, you might be hesitant to reach out. I get it.
It’s not shameful to ask for help – I wish I would have asked for help sooner.
